No actual hacking occurred this time.

The PlayStation Network is now officially back up after an outside attack. But don't worry, this isn't on the same scale as the 2011 PSN outage that threatened to expose the PlayStation community's personal information.

Sony confirmed that the outage was caused by "an attempt to overwhelm our network with artificially high traffic," as opposed to any sort of actual hacking. Sony assured users that their information had not been seen by an outside party, stating that "Although this has impacted your ability to access our network and enjoy our services, no personal information has been accessed."

A group on Twitter calling themselves the Lizard Squad claims credit for the attack, as well as similar instances that occurred on the servers of World of Warcraft and League of Legends.

At any rate, the PlayStation Network is now back online, and Sony has confirmed that the maintenance that was initially scheduled for today has been rescheduled.
