This day marks the end of a once industry giant, the PlayStation 3. The discontinuation of any gaming hardware is usually a sad moment, but I don't think anyone will mourn the loss of the PlayStation 3. It weighs a ton, and looks like the electronic equivalent of a slab of stone.

PlayStation 3 production has finally ended in Japan. The official Japanese PlayStation website revealed that production for the standard 500-gigabyte version of the PlayStation 3 has ended. Since the 500gb standard model was Japan's only PlayStation 3 version left, there will be absolutely no more PS3's being manufactured in the country. Rest in piece PS3, you served your purpose.
