Battlefield 1 has been enjoying a pretty good run so far. While it’s certainly fallen off a lot of radars in the journalism world, it’s still got a whole lot of players, and it’s still doing a lot better than the former king of the FPS, Call of Duty. EA even got itself some goodwill by releasing a single map for free, as is the growing trend with EA games, but now that we’ve had our freebee, it’s time to start paying that sweet sweet premium. In a recent blog post, EA and DICE have revealed more information about the first DLC pack coming for the game, ‘They Shall Not Pass.'

They Shall Not Pass remedies one of the biggest problems of the vanilla game: the disturbing lack of French troops, who were kind of, you know, essential to the war. So not only will you get to don the iconic blue outfits of the French soldiers, you’ll also get four new maps set in France: an uphill battle through a forest fire in Verdun Heights, a claustrophobic maze in Fort Vaux, a massive tank battle at Soissons, and the idealistic French countryside in Rupture.

Speaking of tanks, there are two more added in this DLC, the Saint-Chamond, which was seen as ineffective in the actual war, and the Char 2C, which was never actually used in the war and was also seen as mostly useless. But EA says they can turn the tide of battle so sure, whatever. We’ve also got a new elite class, the Trench Raider, who has a powerful melee weapon and a lot of grenades.

Finally, there’ll be a new Game mode, Frontlines, where teams fight for flags one at a time, capture the enemy HQ, which then turns the game into a rush-style mode to destroy telegraph posts. Seems pretty dope.

A fairly healthy offering, I’d say, and good for true Battlefield 1 fans. We can expect it sometime in March.
