Fatal Frame: The Black-Haired Shrine Maiden will be a Wii U Exclusive

And possibly a Japan exclusive, sadly

Even though the Wii U had a stunning presence at E3, all the hype raised around the system hasn’t really paid dividends yet, and that’s not surprising.  You can be as excited as you want for the future of the Wii U, but right at this EXACT moment the only games really worth your time are the Wind Waker remake and Mario Kart 8, so I doubt we’ll exactly see a boost in sales until later sometime next year… and by then, well, the hype will likely have waned significantly and Bloodborne will be coming out, so Nintendo needs a little extra something in it’s sleeves to keep people interested in their console so they remember how much they want to buy one.

That’s where Koei Tecmo comes in: during the NicoNico Live Fatal Frame series stream, producer Keisuke Kikuchi came on to show off the next game in the Fatal Frame series: The Black-Haired Shrine Maiden.   Check out this trailer—with an apology, its low-quality with no subtitles.

Still, pretty spooky, right?  Well, here’s what we know so far: the game is going to be a Wii U exclusive, and like the rest of the games in the series, will revolve around using a Camera to see things invisible to your normal eyes and to banish aggressive ghosts.  Likely, the Wii U control pad will be used for that.  We also know the protagonist, a girl named  Yuri Kozukata, will have the ability to learn the history of an object simply by touching it.

Useful for fighting ghosts.  Would make for an awkward time if she needed to sneeze at my house, though.

Anyway, that’s all we know about the game so far—we don’t know when it’ll release, or even if it’ll come out in the west.  Heck, the last two fatal frames never made it out over here, largely because it’s got a very eastern approach to horror that isn’t as popular over here.  But still, considering the dire situation of the Wii U I wouldn’t be surprised if Nintendo made a case for it this time.
