I love the horde feature that lets you and your friends go up against a endless onslaught of locust, in my opinion it's one of the best game types in GoW 2 but it doe's live up to the first one it's one of my favorite shooters.
It's too bad they (EPIC GAMES?) sold out and didn't make it for the PC too (that's what we get when accounting makes decisions). The first GoW was pretty fun, my brother and I would play together online or just COOP single player. The graphics were pretty amazing for 2007, even compared to many games right now. Since I'll never play FPS games (I hate using controllers for FPS) on a console (except maybe a couple of minutes at a friend's) I guess I kinda felt betrayed that they wouldn't make the sequel for the PC as well.. Grr.

Using a mouse and keyboard to move in an FPS is just unatural. I liked the gun concept...
Having been used to the mouse + kybrd since '97, I have to say it's about as natural and intuitive as it gets for now. You move the mouse some, the view moves exactly that amount. You have precise control of how much and where you look. Sure, you may have to lift the mouse off the pad and recenter it depending on how far you turn your view, but that is only occasional and most folks are already used to doing that working with computers running GUI like Windows etc..
With a control stick, you can't point your stick and have the view move only that much. Instead you control the rate at which the cross hair moves, slow or fast. So to aim, I have to slew my gun over and then hopefully with enough practice stop moving the view and have reached my destination aim. That means if I hit the stick to the left, my view will keep rotating to the left forever, until I let go. Not very intuitive. It works for applications where it may be a more realistic approach, such as driving or flight simulators, but for "looking" around, a "twiddle stick" is never precise, without the artificial auto aim feature many FPS games use to help the user hit their mark.

I've used it since around that time too and still find it awkward to this day. It's easier to use ones thumb since it has some swivel action as opposed to awkwardly rotating your wrists. The other benefit of a controller is the "Trigger" on the back while "gripping" it. Why do you think they designed it that way? Gun manufacturers don't make guns (at least not to my knowledge) that make you push a button on the top with your index finger to shoot. Why? Because it's unnatural and slow and hell, the gun might end up flying out of your hand due to no grip.
You're thinking of the "realistic" feel the trigger button might have in a controller. For me, it's a mere novelty, when the control scheme itself is flawed for accurate view control. I guess with enough practice either way can work. But for me, using a mouse to navigate a GUI is no different than moving my view around in a 3D game world. It is natural and makes sense to me since I'm used to "looking around" that way in Windows based programs for years. As for the "trigger" on a mouse being on the left mouse button, it again is no different than executing a program or clicking a button in Windows to get something done. There are no real world issues with "firing" a gun that way either, since there's no recoil in a game mouse!

Windows is 2D while these games are a 3D environment so there's a big difference.
But the point is, you still "look" around, and it's easy to do so 'precisely' with a mouse. Move mouse up X amount, move your view up X amount. Move mouse to the left X amount, move view to the left X amount.
Consoles are limited in their controls and options, so they had to adapt in what ways they could, with controllers. But still aren't ever going to really be as "free" feeling as a PC setup. They have their niche though, for driving/race sims.
