Remember Babylon’s Fall?

Of course you don’t. Square Enix announced it with an extremely cryptic non-trailer back at E3 in 2018 as their latest game with Platinum Games, back when both studios were still riding high on NieR: Automata. In it, we learned that there was a fantasy world, some armor, and… that was pretty much it. We saw, we scratched our heads, then we forgot it for the next year and a half.

But now, Babylon’s Fall is back, quite unexpectedly, with a dope new trailer that finally reveals what it is: Dark Souls by Platinum Games.

Hoo boy.

So, there’s still a lot we don’t know about this game, but we indisputably know more. For one, the Dark Souls and Nier: Automata influences are extremely obvious, with the boss fight pulled straight from Dark Souls 2 while the combat is Platinum Game’s usual magic (with a dose of Astral Chain in there, too, what with the grappling). We also know that we’re a long ways away from it ever releasing, as this trailer didn’t include a release date – just a promise for more information next summer. A late 2020/early 2021 release is not impossible, which could mean this will launch on both the PS4 and the PS5. The last screen also strongly suggests a multiplayer component.

And finally, we know the art style looks pretty rad. It’s got a lot more color than Dark Souls games typically have, with this smooth, paint-brush sweeps and attacks.

Anyway. It’s no doubt going to be a wait before we see this again, so try not to forget this time.
