We knew it was coming. Nothing could stop it. Resident Evil 3 is returning. The classic 1999 action horror game is being remade and is set to release in 2020.

Announced during Sony's most recent State of Play, Resident Evil 3 is, as the name implies, a complete remake of the original 1999 Playstation game, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. Featuring a complete engine and graphical overhaul, it follows the story of Jill Valentine as she tries to escape from the zombie infected Urbania known as Raccoon City.

Excited fans won't have to wait long, either. Resident Evil 3 will be releasing on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on April 3, 2020, about 4.5 months from now. According to the PlayStation Blog, there will also be a special Collector's Edition. Available in North America, this special edition will include a Jill Valentine statue, a digital soundtrack, an art book, and a reverse-able poster, all packed together in the classic item box container.

As exciting as this may be, it doesn't come as much of a surprise. The game's existence was rumored after artwork showcasing the protagonists appeared on the PlayStation Network last week. Pair this with the success of last year's Resident Evil 2 remake, reviving the third game seemed like a clear choice.

To further incentivize the game, Sony announced that those who purchase Resident Evil 3 when it releases will also be given Resident Evil: Project Resistance, an asymmetrical multiplayer survival game. This game has four players trying to escape a SAW-style series of traps and monsters, orchestrated by another protagonistic player.

Resident Evil 3 will release on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on April 3, 2020.
