Were saddened to report that Ingrid Oliveira Bueno da Silva, known as pro Call of Duty player Sol, was murdered earlier this week by a fellow player.

According to a report by Brazilian news network R7, the 19-year-old Silva was stabbed to death in the São Paulo area of Pirituba by Guilherme Alves Costa, known in the eSports community as Flashlight.

Costa has confessed to the crime, allegedly filming the attack and turning themselves in at the nearby police station shortly after. Allegedly, the motivation given was because [he] wanted to. They claimed that it was not an act of insanity, and that they had planned the murder for two weeks.

The two had met through their time as professional eSports players, playing Call of Duty for separate eSports teams.

Costas team reportedly received the video of the murder via WhatsApp, along with a PDF file with anti-theistic messages and allusions toward terrorism. The team informed the authorities and asked their members to not share the contents further.

The police have stated that Costa has remained calm since his arrest, and they do not believe he has killed anyone else. There have been reports of further writings by Costa musing on further violence, however. Costa is expected to receive a psychiatric examination to determine the conditions of his trial.

News like this always weighs heavy on our hearts. Death is never an easy topic, whether it's inside the gaming community or not. Silva was among the already small minority of female eSports players. Women in games face a lot of difficulties from spectators and peers alike. Events like this further reinforce a fear for their safety.

Our condolences go out to everyone affected by this death.
