Speaking of Monster Hunter: World, more good news!

Nothing beats the feeling of your game getting a nice free update with lots of goodies in it, right? That’s about the one good plus to this whole “gaming as a service” business people in the industry keep going on about. Nowadays, the idea of post-launch content updates seems exclusively limited to paid DLC and expansions, but some companies, like CD Projekt Red and now Capcom, are still able to show the world how it’s supposed to be done.

Speaking to Famitsu, Monter Hunter World’s producer Ryozo Tsujimoto had this to say on the subject:

"We are thinking about free, post-launch updates for Monster Hunter: World. What I can specifically say is that we plan to [add] new monsters and such in hopes that users play for a long time. As for what kind of monsters will be added and so on, information will be shared later on, so please look forward to it."

This is a pretty big deal; the whole point of Monster Hunter games is to hunt monsters, and adding new big baddies basically adds hours upon hours of new gameplay to the experience, as well as possibly new armors and weapons that can be crafted from their bodies. If this is true, it seems Capcom is going to be putting a lot of money on building up customer goodwill… something that will hopefully pay off.

Monster Hunter: Worlds is set to launch on January 26 for consoles. It also plans to launch for the PC as well, making it the first Monster Hunter game to do so, but the exact date hasn’t yet been made public. Oh, and if you needed a reason to pick up the PlayStation version of the game, Aloy is supposed to be playable in that version. That’s a neat addition.
