Tis the season to have money,

Fa la la la la, la la la la

Bask in sales as a sweet as honey

Fa la la la la, la la la la

Steam has you in its control

Fa la la, la la la, la la la

Your backlog demands a new goal

Fa la la la la, la la la

Yes, the imagined lyrics to a well-known holiday theme song tell an important story of PC gamers everywhere, capable of summary in two words: Steam sales.

Steam sales have hit again, and we cannot escape them. The prices are so tempting that you end up buying one game, but the next moment (or day) you see a sale for a game on your wishlist and purchase that. Then another few sales pop up for games you've never heard of, but the prices are too good to be true that you buy them anyway. And next you know is your library boasting 240 games, with 180 games labeled Indie and 170 of those 180 unknown to the general public. Seem familiar?

Well, prepare to extend that perpetual backlog of yours. Steam's famous Holiday Sale for 2014 brings tons of goodies for your virtual stocking. This sale is also great for those wanting to purchase gifts for loved ones. The sale has started today, December 18th, 2014, and it will on January 2nd, 2015 at 10 AM PST.

What is included in the Holiday Sale is a featured list of awesome too-good-to-be-true prices plastered on the front page, a community voted sale, and a list of flash sales. For every ten dollars spent on Steam or whenever you vote a certain amount for the community driven sale, you are eligible to receive trading cards, which can be traded or crafted into badges.

Currently, there are quite a few big name games on sale, including: Sniper Elite III ($24.99), Civilization: Beyond Earth ($29.99), Dark Souls II ($14.79), and Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes ($13.39). So if you have the funds, make your way onto Steam and extend that backlog you have promised yourself you'd eventually finish.
