Help Giopi, the GOP Mascot, Defeat the Evil President Obama and his Taxpaying Drones

Sounds like a paid ad but I had a hard time thinking of anything sarcastic.

So here on Gamerzunite, we try to stay away from political storiesthis is a gaming site on the internet, and most of our audience can be safely assumed to be left-of-center in their political leanings but the discussion of politics is decisive (and some would say dull) no matter how you approach it and tackling it just isn't good for business.

That said, I'm going to do it anyway because I find this story funny.

The midterm elections are coming, and historically, the republican party has had a hard time connecting with the youth of our nation. Fortunately, the think tank over at the National Republican Senatorial Committee had a realization: the kids like video games, so why not make a video game to promote Republican values and encourage people to vote for our representatives?

And that's how we got Mission Minority.

It's not a game I actually recommend you play out of idle curiosityyou have to give contact information (like an email address or a facebook account) so the NRSC can contact you with promotional material'but the basic premise is that you play a happy bouncing elephant Giopi who has to stomp on "job-destroying taxpayers" sent by the evil President Obama and Harry Reid. Funnily, every time you beat a enemy, it plays a small soundbite of a democratic politician.

According to the game itself...

"Hi, my name is Giopi. I'm one of the GOP's best volunteers for the 2014 midterms, and I'm here to show you how we can win back the Senate! There is going to be a lot of red tape and regulations in our way, but we need to overcome them in order to succeed. At the end of each level, there is a link that will bring you to a site where you can support Republicans in real life."

It's hardly the first time video games have been used to promote politicians. Obama had ads in video games in 2008 and 2012 asking players to support him, and Ron Paul had this. Ron Paul also had cover of the Pokemon theme song (sung by the same guy who did it originally) released supporting him, but I'm not linking it to you because it's effectively one-and-a-half minutes of someone bludgeoning your childhood to death.

Welcome to politics, boys and girls.
