To promote a healthy competitive scene, Epic Games announced their plans to invest $100 million toward prize pools for the first season of Fortnite tournaments.

The mind-boggling sum of money will be divvied up between a number of different Fortnite competitions throughout the 2018-2019 season. While formal details about official tournaments remain unconfirmed, we do know that Epic plans to host Fortnite Party Royale, a 100-man tournament taking place during this year's E3.

Epic games made a point to express that they want their competitions to be more centered around enjoyment than performance:

We're getting behind competitive play in a big way, but our approach will be different we plan to be more inclusive, and focused on the joy of playing and watching the game.

Fortnite has grown into a massively successful title, with record-breaking viewerships and an overwhelmingly large player base. Epic Games has shown that they have enough of a pulse on their fans to cater to them effectively. If they can apply the same level of awareness and creativity to the competitive scene, it will be another notch in their "taking over the world" belt.
