Kickstarters come and go, they succeed and fail, and while the failures are sad, it’s just an expected part of the business these days--that’s why Kickstarter tries to make it perfectly clear that there’s very little a backer can do if a project doesn’t deliver. Only in the most extreme cases can you demand the return of your money, and those instances are few and far between.

Well, Ant Simulator, the latest in the ‘simulator’ range of games--but one that actually seemed to have strategic gameplay (rather than a bunch of random nonsense, such as Goat Simulator or the frankly-named ‘Shower With your Dad Simulator’)--was a Kickstarter success, and there were even alpha and beta builds of the game available for people who pre-ordered the game.

But then, we’re being told now that the game is being canceled. And in all my years, I’ve never seen this being the cause.

Strippers, food, and booze. Wow. Now, I’m certain there are Kickstarters that ended this way before, but this is the first I’ve heard a developer being so honest about it. But yeah, this seems like a total dick move--friends for 11 years falling apart because of the tantalizing allure of money. And threatening to sue of the game was ever released without them? That’s just evil.

Still. If you backed, or bought the beta, you’ll soon be reached out with an offer to take a refund. Although by the sound of things, the guy offering you your money back is the guy who probably needs it more, so… maybe just consider your purchase an act of charity and let him keep it?

I don’t know, I just feel bad for him. That’s gotta be a crappy situation to be in.
